Americans Are Serfs Ruled By Oligarchs

Paul Craig Roberts
četvrtak, 27. avgust 2009.

Americans think that they have "freedom and democracy" and that politicians are held accountable by elections. The fact of the matter is that the US is ruled by powerful interest groups who control politicians with campaign contributions. Our real rulers are an oligarchy of financial and military interests.

Ten Years of Putin

Peter Zeihan
sreda, 19. avgust 2009.

While it has hardly been clear to STRATFOR that Putin would survive Russia’s transition from tentative democracy to near-police state, the transformation of Russia itself has always fit with our predictions. Authoritarian government is a geographically hardwired feature of Russia.

Moscow’s Iran Connection

Andranik Migranyan
ponedeljak, 17. avgust 2009.

In the very near future, the United States and its partners may demand that Iran suspend its uranium-enrichment program. If Iran refuses to do so, the US might try to sponsor a US Security Council resolution imposing tougher sanctions upon Iran. Earlier attempts by the US met with Chinese and Russian opposition.

A New Growth Model

Radovan Jelašić
petak, 24. jul 2009.

Now that just such an external shock has happened, it is time for a re-evaluation of the previous two decades’ growth pattern. For all the trouble it has brought, this crisis is an opportunity to put Central and Eastern Europe on a more sustainable growth path.

Berlusconi in Tehran

Slavoj Žižek
sreda, 22. jul 2009.

We have lost the capacity to recognise the promise of emancipation, we in the West will have entered a post-democratic era, ready for our own Ahmadinejads. Italians already know his name: Berlusconi. Others are waiting in line. Is there a link between Ahmadinejad and Berlusconi?

Russia May Score Final Coup in Energy Battle

Alexandros Petersen
petak, 17. jul 2009.

Russian plans for the replacement facility and electricity export to Turkey, Iran and potentially Georgia put Western assumptions into question. In negotiations over Nabucco, Turkey proved to be an uncertain actor.

Resetting Russia

Nikolas Gvosdev
petak, 10. jul 2009.

Things might be different if Obama was traveling to Europe with a climate-change bill ready for signature on his desk and with polling showing clear majorities in favor of moving rapidly on a new arms-control treaty and on improving U.S.-Russia relations. But the senate is traditionally a slow-moving body.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic’s Speech at the UN SC

Vuk Jeremic
četvrtak, 18. jun 2009.

We note with deep regret the dismissal of resolution 1244 (1999) by Pristina. As the Secretary-General’s report makes plain, the ethnic-Albanian authorities in Kosovo assert that - here I quote - “they have no legal obligation to abide by it.”

Contemporary Politics between „Real-Politik“ and Democratic Nationalism

Bogdana Koljević
utorak, 09. jun 2009.

The other no less distinguishable moment that rises with the example of the need of reconsidering the idea and concrete movement, direction and future of the European Union is that such request comes forth from the people.

Obama’s Israel Gamble

Dimitri K. Simes
petak, 05. jun 2009.

Mr. Obama has already discovered before seriously trying that applying meaningful pressure on Israel will create a powerful backlash from Israel’s most ardent supporters in the United States. But the president is at the peak of his popularity and the very beginning of his term.

The Battle for Baghdad

Kenneth M. Pollack
sreda, 26. avgust 2009.

If the United States walks away from Iraq or if we are evicted too soon, the old patterns of Iraqi politics will subvert the new patterns of democratization and the country could easily become yet another data point on the academic graphs that demonstrate how pitifully few countries can escape the civil-war trap.

Our Tin-Pot Autocrat

Dimitri K. Simes
ponedeljak, 17. avgust 2009.

Georgia itself also needs and deserves U.S. support. But supporting Georgia’s tin-pot autocrat, Saakashvili, is contrary to American interests and American values, notwithstanding his apparent shotgun conversion to dialogue and compromise with his domestic opposition.

Kosovo & Systematic Persecution by KLA

Lee Jay Walker
ponedeljak, 27. jul 2009.

More and more evidence is coming to light about brutal KLA death camps and killing people for organs. Therefore, will former KLA members be charged with war crimes and will the "real truth" be told about international collusion? If not, then where does this leave Kosovo?

Bush’s Third Term

James Joyner
četvrtak, 23. jul 2009.

President Obama took the oath of office six months ago. He did so after a long campaign in which he continuously promised “change” and to “restore America’s standing in the world.” Thus far, however, optics are all that keeps his administration’s foreign policy from being a continuation of George W. Bush’s.

Can the United States and Russia Find a Common Language?

Dimitri K. Simes
nedelja, 19. jul 2009.

Moscow and Washington are calling their recent summit a success. But to move beyond cosmetic agreements, the United States will have to think of Russia as a strategic partner and not just a negotiating one.

More Friends, More War

Doug Bandow
utorak, 14. jul 2009.

Contrary to the claims of NATO expansion advocates, alliance membership does not provide a free lunch. Throughout history, many alliances have acted as transmission belts of war rather than as firebreaks for war. There is no reason to expect NATO to be any different.

Was Kosovo the Good War?

David N. Gibbs
ponedeljak, 06. jul 2009.

The main lesson of the Kosovo and Iraq experiences is that military actions - whether we call them "humanitarian" or not  -  retain the potential to increase human misery. The advocates of humanitarian intervention give too little consideration to this danger.

UN Papers and the Gross Reality

Pyotr Iskenderov
sreda, 10. jun 2009.

The available information makes it possible to claim that both the passing of Resolution 1244 and the diplomatic maneuvers around Kosovo that ensued were nothing but a show originally planned by the West. In the process Moscow's role to which the Russian leadership somehow agreed was that of a “good policeman”.

A New Beginning

Barack Obama
petak, 05. jun 2009.

(Barack Obama's speech in Cairo)

I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect; and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition.

Srebrenica — The History of Salon Racism

Alexander Dorin
četvrtak, 04. jun 2009.

Regarding the events in Srebrenica in 1995, the media manipulations still reign in the West, claiming that after the town fell to Serbian hands some 7,000 to 8,000 of Muslim fighters and male civilians were killed. However, the researchers around the world have shown this bears no relation to the truth.
